Tips To Stop Biting Nails
I’ve been biting my nails for such a long time, perhaps since my early teen years or even earlier. For the past couple of years, it was a habit I really wanted to stop but struggled with and if you bite your nails, you’ll know exactly what I mean.
This year, I was really determined to actually stop biting my nails as I really wanted to paint my nails and have them looking nice. Back in March, I decided to stop biting my nails and since then I haven’t bitten my nails till recently (late October) were I accidentally feel back into the habit and was very upset by it which I now have to go back to the old ways of trying to grow my nails back out again.
So here are a few tips if you are biting your nails you could try to stop. Hopefully some of these can help you out.
- Stop Biting Nail Polishes – Now, I don’t know about you but these nail polishes with that awful taste that you apply to your nails to stop biting never actually worked for me because I actually wouldn’t care about the taste in my mouth. But you can always try them out and maybe it will work for you.
- Fake Nails – Another thing you could try is those fake nails, either the press on ones or the ones with the glue. The glue ones are a bit more damaging to your nails but I can’t find the press on ones here any ways so I don’t really have choice but it’s up to you which one you’d like to use. For the nail glue ones, you can buy them at any drug store. Wear them for about a week just to get your nails growing a bit. Before applying the nails on, use a base cost to help protect your nails and to help them grow. The one I like to use is either Sally Hansen Miracle Growth or Sally Hansen’s Diamond Strength.
Tip – When removing the nails, soak each nail in acetone or acetone nail polish remover. This will help remove the nail in a gentle way and help remove the nail glue from your nails. After removing the glue, clean hands to remove acetone, buff your nails a bit to remove any excess and moisturise your hands and nails to restore your hands and nails moisture back.
- Paint Your Nails – What I liked to do next is actually paint my nails because once I paint my nails, I wont want to bite them to ruin the nail polish. Pick a colour you really wanted to try and paint your nails and if you want, you can even try some nail art. Remember to put a base coat first as you don’t want the nail polish to leave stains on your nails. I either like to use Sally Hansen’s Miracle Growth, Sally Hansen’s Nail Repair or Sally Hansen’s Diamond Strength.
Just keep you nails taken care of and keep your nails painted to make you stop biting your nails and always try to have a really nice polish that you like on your nails to keep you from biting. If none of these seem to work, you can try on some gel nails or acrylic though, I’ve never tried those but those can stay much longer on your nails I believe so maybe that’s enough time to grow your nails.
It is so worth it going through this, not only because you’ll finally have the nails you’ve always wanted but it will also keep your nails much healthier.
Have you recently stopped biting your nails? If so, what did you do to stop yourself from biting them? And if you try some of these tip, let me know what works for you or not.
